GRAND ISLE MEMORIAL EVENT SCHEDULED FOR 4/20/2011

LOCATED: Grounds of the Grand Isle Medical Clinic 108 Willow Ln Grand Isle, LA Corner of La. 1 and Willow Lane Grand Isle, LA REMEMBRANCE * RESPECT * RESTORATION "They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations." Isaiah 61:1-4 ...ONE YEAR AGO TODAY, 11 MEN LOST THEIR LIVES IN THIS EXPLOSION. THE LIVES OF THEIR FAMILIES AND THE LIVES OF ALL OTHER GULF RESIDENTS CHANGED FOREVER. JOIN US AS WE REMEMBER THESE 11 MEN WHOSE LIVES WERE LOST AND GRIEVE FOR OUR LOSSES AND LOOK FORWARD TO A CLEANER, BRIGHTER FUTURE. • Fishless Fry and Shrimpless Boil – Refreshments available throughout the day. Please consider donating at the serving tables. • Children’s Oil Spill Art Exhibit • Music and Poetry Reading • Food/care package drive to benefit the citizens of Grand Isle, La. Items needed: canned foods, boxed foods, children’s Tylenol, Motrin, cold medicines, toothpaste, razors, soap, gift cards, gas cards, toilet paper, paper towels, feminine care items, wound dressings, etc. Jay Heyman, a producer for Radical Media will be filming portions of the event for an Animal Planet documentary. • “Planting Hope” - Native Vegetation and Tree Donation Drive - Donate to receive a plant of your choice. Planting will memorialize all that was lost and symbolize our commitment to restoration, empowerment and our hope for the future. 7:00 pm - 7:30 pm • Inter-faith Fellowship and Prayer Service – Share your stories, meet your neighbors, empower our community. Leaders from the various churches on Grand Isle will lead us in a short homily and prayer service. • Dessert 7:30 pm – 8:15 pm • Lantern-lit Vigil – a quiet walk along the beach for the 11 men who lost their lives on the Deepwater Horizon, as well as for the loss of wildlife and the damage to our culture. All donations will remain on the island and benefit Coastal Heritage Society of Louisiana's humanitarian efforts on Grand Isle. Three days after we commemorate the "Day the Gulf Died," we will proclaim the "Resurrection of the Gulf" with a day of action.
